American Baptist International Ministries (IM) is pleased to announce that Rev. John David (J.D.) and Rhonda Reed have been approved as endorsed missionary candidates for service in Bolivia. The Reeds will serve with IM partner The Union Bautista Boliviana.

J.D. and Rhonda Reed will serve in theological education for both lay leaders and pastors, in starting new work and in development of the work in the Santa Cruz de la Sierra and the southern part of Bolivia. The Reeds will also interpret the ministries of The Union Bautista Boliviana in the U.S. and globally.

J.D. and Rhonda have long felt a call to cross-cultural work. “About five years ago our church became a part of Mario and Iris Morales’ [IM missionaries in Bolivia] MPN and, since then, the thought of finally taking the step seemed much easier. We prayed about it and felt God confirming in our hearts what we had known for years, so we began the process to follow the call,” explained the Reeds.

The endorsement phase of the new missionary recruitment process means that the couple will form their Missionary Partnership Network (MPN). The size of an MPN varies, but the goal is to maintain 1,000 or more individuals who are supporting the missionary in important ways, including subscribing to the missionary's print or e-newsletters, hosting them at regional gatherings or at their churches, and supporting them through prayer, volunteer work groups and personalized giving. During the endorsement phase, the missionary couple will also form their Missionary Partnership Team (MPT), which is typically comprised of no more than 10 individuals.  Members of the team are invited by the missionary and are usually close friends or family members who will work closely with the endorsed candidate to help insure a vibrant ministry.

J.D. is presently the Pastor of Community Ministry and Media at the South Parkersburg Baptist Church (SPBC) in Parkersburg, WV. Rhonda is a registered nurse with past volunteer experience with Kim Brown in Thailand. They have three children, Grace (11), Abigail (8) and Nathanael (5).

“The Reeds are a dear part of our family at the SPBC; we will miss them greatly,” commented lead Pastor, Ed Rogers. “However, we are so pleased that God has chosen to further His work in Bolivia through their commitment to Him.”
