Dear Loved Ones,

Greeting. Please join us as we celebrate God’s gift of a washing machine at the eye clinic.

What in the world is the big deal with a washing machine?

Well, it is not easy to find this tool at all the caring/medical institutions in our country.  For us, we have liberated the guy who washes, saving him time and energy.

With 13 cataract operations almost every Tuesday now and many more on Thursdays, using a washing machine is a real improvement in term of quality service we have to offer.

We praise God while we say thank you to all of you for standing by our sides.

 Dear Friends,

Cleanliness is a top priority in a medical facility.   It is hard for us Americans to imagine all the years the eye clinic has not had a washing machine.  In these poor countries items are not thrown away like we do here but must be cleaned and sterilized.  I once heard one of our missionaries working at a hospital in India say they tried to get 20 uses from a pair of latex gloves.

This is just one the many improvements that Nzunga has brought to the eye clinic since he took over management in the 90's.  The space has doubled, it is very clean, it is now air conditioned, it has a back up generator, It no longer leaks when it rains, and the process is very professional when dealing with patients.  Take a number, take a seat.  Every one is seen in turn.  It is normal in Haiti to give preference to those with status of some sort.  Not at the eye clinic.  There have been many equipment upgrades. Nzunga is now developing a lab to do their own tests instead of sending them to outside labs.  As a supporter you should be very proud of this institution.

If you know of any used eye equipment we could get a reasonable cost (cheap) please let us know.  As the rest of the world, all this equipment is going digital.  Therefore it is relatively new so there is not many used ones available.  The old analog equipment is not longer supported to get repair parts.  We are sort of caught between a rock and a hard place until time or new features start to make eye clinics replace their equipment.
